Design Notes: 1. Dartford Tunnel reflected in external Skeleton "Tube" 2. QEII Bridge complemented by cable elements in new bridge
Main Structural Form: 1. Innovative External Lattice Grid with inner concrete core elements - Allows much Longer Main Span to give slender elegant design. 2. Bridge Designed with redundancy for maintenance/replacement of grid elements. 3. Oval Concrete Columns at reclining angles support approach viaduct
Road Decks: 1. Act as Structural Inner "Cores" within the external "Skeleton" Grid Shell 2. Double Deck levels within the main span provides operational flexibility in case of closure or peak traffic flows 3. Deck core tied to grid shell using stiff fin elements - prevents buckling of outer tube 4. Road Deck "Core" element transfers lateral loads into bridge abutments |

| A Hull of a Bridge |
| Country |
| A steel girder bridge based on the construction of a boat hull, drawing inspiration from box girder bridges and shell frame construction. This and the existing dartford bridge interplay to give the impression of two large boats poised on the water, with the existing wires suggesting the rigging of a boat's sails. It is intended that the structure be pre-fabricated and floated up the river to the site. |
